Propeller Health
Propeller Health is changing how asthma and COPD are managed with connected inhaler sensors and easy-to-use apps that provide real-time data and personalized insights. The result: better symptom control, fewer flare-ups, and stronger patient-care team collaboration.
Noble Applications helped Propeller launch their MVP and first Android app, later supporting the team through product pivots, platform growth, and device integrations.
Solving the Business Problem
Managing asthma and COPD can be frustrating and unpredictable for patients. Medication adherence is low, symptom tracking is often subjective, and providers rarely have a full picture of what’s happening between office visits.
Propeller set out to change that by attaching Bluetooth-enabled sensors to patients’ existing inhalers, passively tracking usage, and syncing that data to a mobile app. This technology enables users to understand their symptoms and triggers, while helping providers monitor medication use and adjust treatment plans accordingly.
But building such a system meant facing early-stage hurdles: ensuring sensor reliability, building Bluetooth integrations across devices, refining the user experience, and architecting a scalable, secure backend that could evolve with new regulations and form factors. That’s where Noble came in.
Noble Collaboration
Noble Applications worked side-by-side with Propeller Health during their earliest development stages. We helped launch their initial Android app, troubleshoot Bluetooth sensor integrations, and refine key mobile app features. As the platform matured, Noble continued to support Propeller through multiple product milestones:
Key Areas of Collaboration:
- MVP & Early Android App Development: Helped bring the first version of the Propeller platform to life on Android, solving real-time Bluetooth data syncing and sensor pairing workflows.
- iOS App Overflow & Redesign Support: Assisted with overflow development needs during a major iOS redesign, following a company-wide strategic pivot.
- Apple Watch App Consulting: Provided guidance and implementation support to modernize the Propeller Watch app for Apple’s latest OS releases and devices.
- Device Integrations: Helped connect new respiratory devices and partner hardware into the Propeller ecosystem.
- Strategic Advisory Role: As Propeller grew, Noble remained a trusted partner, advising on new features, troubleshooting niche platform needs, and supporting their internal team.
The collaboration evolved over time—from deep technical partnership during the early stages, to an on-call advisory and execution team that helped accelerate Propeller’s growth trajectory.
Project's Importance
Propeller Health didn’t just build a product—they shaped the future of connected healthcare. Their platform has improved the lives of thousands living with asthma and COPD, while also setting the bar for digital health innovation.
Their success story culminated in a landmark moment for Wisconsin’s tech and healthcare sectors: Propeller was acquired by ResMed for $225 million, one of the most high-profile health tech exits in the state. They were also recognized with the 2018 Wisconsin Innovation Award, celebrating their role in pioneering the digital health movement.
For Noble Applications, Propeller remains the ideal blueprint for how we aim to support startups—building a strong foundation, collaborating through growth, and remaining a trusted partner as success scales. Together, we helped create a product that’s as impactful as it is technically ambitious.
