Solving the Business Problem

Rock River Laboratory saw an opportunity to modernize a process deeply embedded in agriculture—sample submission. Previously, sending samples for analysis involved handwritten forms, manual data entry, and phone-based coordination. This left too much room for error and consumed valuable time that could be spent on ration balancing or farm visits.

FeedScan addresses this by digitizing the entire submission workflow. It enables users to submit samples with just a few taps—no writing required—and immediately access sample reports, trends, and dropbox locations. With new features like copy-and-paste sample codes, customizable profiles, and direct PDF report sharing, FeedScan minimizes friction while improving accuracy and accessibility for farmers, consultants, and lab technicians alike.

Noble's Collaboration

To expand the app’s functionality and introduce a valuable new marketing initiative, Noble partnered with Rock River Laboratory to design and develop a new module—InField Updates—within the existing FeedScan app. This feature was designed to give users, even those without accounts, immediate value by visualizing real-time trends in silage quality based on regional sampling data.

Key features included:

  • A map-based interface that presents regional data within a 10–25 mile radius
  • Anonymous, aggregated data displays—showing moisture trends and analysis results
  • Sample freshness logic (data “retires” after 8 days)
  • A graph that trends dry matter content over the past 8 days
  • Easy navigation using pinch/zoom, scroll, and persistent “view results” buttons
  • A streamlined onboarding path for users without accounts, including optional email collection
  • Built-in analytics for understanding user engagement and geographic reach

This update also enabled Rock River Laboratory to engage prospective customers directly through the app—without requiring them to log in—supporting both user acquisition and marketing analytics.

Project Importance

FeedScan has become an indispensable tool for agricultural professionals. By simplifying the sample submission process and layering on rich features like Drop Off Location maps, Farm Sync, and now InField Updates, Rock River Laboratory is helping customers work smarter, not harder.

The InField Updates module adds even more value, especially for prospective users, by turning regional sampling data into decision-making insights. It’s a win for customer experience, marketing, and operational efficiency—all built into an app that fits in your pocket.
