NCALL

The National Clearinghouse on Abuse in Later Life (NCALL), a project of End Domestic Abuse Wisconsin, is a national leader in improving responses to elder abuse through training, advocacy, and cross-disciplinary collaboration. With a focus on safety, dignity, and empowerment for older survivors, NCALL partnered with Noble Applications to enhance their online forums—ensuring the platform remains an accessible, collaborative space for advocates, trainers, and educators supporting victims of abuse, neglect, and exploitation.

Solving the Business Problem

NCALL’s online forums are a critical communication tool for its network of professionals, but outdated functionality and limited user permissions were slowing engagement and making content contribution difficult. With growing participation and a need for more dynamic interaction, NCALL needed to modernize the forums to meet the expectations of its community—without compromising security or accessibility.

Key friction points included the inability for users to upload documents, unclear editing tools, inconsistent formatting, and limited administrator control over post tagging. NCALL also needed a clearer user experience on the login and forum pages and improved font sizes to support readability.

Noble’s Collaboration

Noble had previously worked with NCALL to update website and portal permissions, so they were well-positioned to take on the forum enhancements. The team executed a range of user experience and technical upgrades to bring clarity, consistency, and new functionality to the site. Key updates included:

  • Custom login page language updates to better reflect NCALL’s tone and audience
  • A redesigned main forum title and layout that aligns with the format of the broader NCALL site
  • Font size improvements for both main and sub-forum content to improve readability across devices
  • Removal of user-facing topic tag fields while preserving admin tagging functionality for better content organization
  • A robust content editor allowing users to upload Word documents, PDFs, and images
  • Back-end documentation for editor tools, including descriptions and intended use cases
  • Slack channel integration for fast collaboration and weekly progress updates with NCALL staff

Noble also consulted on hosting implications for uploaded media, ensuring NCALL understood storage and infrastructure needs for scaling support content.

Project Importance

The upgraded forums enable easier access to resources, foster deeper peer-to-peer engagement, and provide more control to NCALL’s administrative team. By improving document sharing and simplifying the posting experience, the platform now supports more robust collaboration—crucial for a network focused on addressing complex, sensitive issues.

With Noble’s partnership, NCALL has a more stable, user-friendly forum system built to evolve. The project also lays the groundwork for future enhancements, with clear documentation, open communication channels, and a flexible support model for ongoing training and improvements.
