Solving the Business Problem

As Central Garden & Pet looked to expand into connected device offerings, they faced a complex technical challenge: unifying hardware, software, and cloud infrastructure into a reliable, user-friendly platform—without compromising on security or compliance. Their internal Information Security team required a detailed security implementation strategy, while the product and development teams needed scalable systems to manage devices, data, and user access.

The goal was clear: develop mobile apps and an administrative web platform that could support smart devices in the field, streamline product setup, and provide peace of mind through enterprise-grade security controls. All of this needed to be built on top of a flexible infrastructure ready to support additional brands and products in the future.

Noble's Collaboration

Noble Applications worked in close collaboration with Central Garden & Pet to expand their IoT platform with new features, tighter security, and enhanced user experience—across both Android and iOS mobile apps, a hosted server environment, and a secure administrative web application.

Key deliverables included:

  • Mobile app updates for iOS and Android to enhance functionality and integrate with the expanding IoT platform
  • Device Advisor and Device Defender configuration to monitor anomalies, set up alarms, and detect threats proactively
  • Advanced security features, including two-factor authentication, encrypted communication, and device-specific credentials
  • Penetration testing workflows (external, internal, targeted, blind, and double-blind) coordinated with trusted third-party testers
  • Custom administrative interface with access controls and dedicated AWS hosting
  • Smart map views and alert systems to manage and monitor connected devices in real time

This phase also included careful planning for future scaling—enabling the core platform to eventually support additional brands with minimal duplication and seamless user experience.
